Sleeve anchors consist of a threaded bolt wrapped in an expansion sleeve. When the bolt is tightened, the cone-shaped end of the bolt is pulled into the sleeve, forcing it to expand outward against the interior walls of the drilled hole, ensuring a tight and secure grip.
Molly anchors (sleeve-type hollow wall anchors) are ideal for medium-to-heavy loads in hollow walls. Unlike plastic plugs that rely on friction, Molly anchors collapse behind the drywall to create a wide, secure metal bracing, preventing pulling out under heavier loads.
Drop-in anchors provide a permanent, flush-mounted female thread in solid concrete. They are installed using a setting tool that drives an internal plug down, expanding the anchor inside the concrete. They are excellent for suspension systems, overhead piping, and temporary bolt removals.
Anchor selection depends on three main factors: the base material (drywall, concrete, brick, or block), the weight capacity requirement of the fixture, and the thickness of the material being fastened. Always check load ratings and ensure the correct drill bit size is used for installation.
